    Cat Eye

Cat Eye makes lots of battery powered lights for bicycles. Some use halogen bulbs, but most now use LEDs for efficiency. The HL-500II is now discontinued.

Whenever possible, I recommend using rechargeable batteries since they last much longer than alkalines and don't fill up the land fill nearly as fast.

    HL-MC200

Lower cost replacement for the HL500II. Good beam pattern, but not quite a nice as the HL500II. Uses the same 2.4 watt halogen replacement bulb as the HL500II. 3 hour run time with 4 AA batteries. Can be mounted either above or below the handlebar. HL-MC200 $ 13.00

    Replacement halogen bulbs for HL500II and HL-MC200 $ 6.35

The bulbs are tiny and weigh next to nothing. It's best to carry two or three.

    EL-500

This is the Cat Eye EL500. It has a single very bright 1 watt LED with a rated run time of about 30 hours. The beam is very small, concentrating the light. The light is pretty bright for the first 10 to 12 hours, then is dimmer for the remaining 18 hours. This is the brightest LED headlight from Cat Eye. But I have brighter LED headlights from Busch & Müller. They are also better focused. Handlebar mount included. Uses 4 AA batteries, not included. $ 45.00

The newer EL530 is brighter but still a small beam. Not enough to light up the road by itself. If this is your only light for use on unlit roads, you'll want two of them, perhaps three. $ 50.00

    HL-EL520

This light is tiny, but it cranks out more than 1,200 candlepower - plenty for casual riding or getting home from work.

    Features:

    • 50% brighter than the HL-EL510
    • High/low beams
    • Uses 4 AA batteries
    • More than 240 hours of runtime in low beam (Cat Eye specification. Not confirmed by Peter White Cycles.)
    • Side visibility
    • Flex-Tight mounting bracket included

    Our part number CATLT4143 $ 42.00

The EL-510 is similar. It's the older version, not as bright, and doesn't have the Flex-Tight Bracket. But it's a lot less expensive. Looks just about identical. Our part number CATLT4117 $ 24.00

    EL-300

This uses 5 LEDs. Not as good a beam pattern nor as bright as the HL500II or the Busch&Müller Freelite D, my best battery headlight, but pretty bright and long run time on the batteries. A great value.
    EL-300 $ 27.00

    EL-200

3 LED headlight. Perfect as a backup for a dynamo lighting system. Not bright enough to be used as a standalone headlight while riding at speed, but great for helping drivers know you're there. Perfect for long slow climbs during a brevet, when you would want to save your batteries for your bright lights. At 4 mph, you can get away with a lot less light up front. EL-200 $ 20.00

    EL-110

1 LED headlight. Not bright enough for prime time, but a good backup for a dynamo system while stopped at a traffic light. EL-110 $ 15.00

The Cat Eye H-32 bracket works with all of the Cat Eye headlights listed above. So you can move your light from one bike to another. The lever makes it quick and easy to remove or install the mount. It fits standard handlebars with dimensions from 25.4mm to 26mm. $ 3.60

The Cat Eye H-31 bracket looks almost identical to the H-32. The difference is that the H-31 works on newer oversized handlebars, 28mm through 31.8mm. $ 3.60

The Cat Eye H-27 also works with the same headlights but uses a knurled knob instead of a quick release lever. $ 3.60

The Cat Eye H-24 bracket works with a few older Cat Eye headlights, like the HL-NC300, HL-1500, and HL-500 $ 3.60

    Flex-Tight Headlight Bracket

Most of Cat Eye's newer LED headlights come with their new Flex-Tight Bracket. It works like a hose clamp but instead of using a screw driver to tighten it, you just turn a nylon knob. So it will fit any size handlebar without the need for shims. And if you want to get really crazy and mount the light on something smaller than a handlebar, it also comes with a nice fat shim. As of February, 2007, here are the headlights that will work with the Flex Tight Bracket: HL-EL830RC, HL-EL820RC, HL-EL730RC, HL-EL720RC, HL-EL530, HL-EL520, HL-EL510, HL-EL500, HL-EL320, HL-EL300, HL-EL220, HL-EL210, HL-EL200, HL-EL135, HL-EL130, HL-EL110, HL-EL100, HL-MC200. Like I said, some of these lights already come with the Flex-Tight Bracket. But if you want to easily swap the light between bikes, or if you want to upgrade to the Flex-Tight, we have them available. It's Cat Eye's part number 533-8827. It's our part number CATLT3980 $ 5.00

Don't confuse this with the Flex-Tight Taillight Bracket below!

    EL-400/410

This nifty little headlight uses Cat Eye's new Opticube system for focusing LEDs. It makes for a pretty bright headlight (3 LED) that can mount just about anywhere. It works best on your helmet, where the strap can be looped through openings either on top of or on the side of your helmet. The light pivots on the mount easily. You don't need tools, just reach up and turn it. It's fully water proof, so you can even go diving with it. Uses 3 AAA batteries, which are not included. 3.5 inches long and weighs next to nothing. $ 30.00

The EL-410 is the new version. I have no idea what the difference is. I now stock the EL-410 in silver and black.

    Silver part number CATLT4145: $ 34.00

    Black part number CATLT4146: $ 34.00

Here the EL400/410 is mounted to my handlebar and aimed about 6 feet in front of the bike. My headlight lights up the road extremely well at a distance, and leaves a dark area close to the bike. The EL400/410 fills in the dark area close to the bike nicely.

I stock a replacement strap for the EL-410. Cat Eye calls it the Mount Kit and their part number is 533-9540. My part number is CATLT3993 $ 4.00

    LD-260

New from Cat Eye, the LD-260 has a mount that pivots in three planes, see the pictures below. It's a headlight with a single LED. It's not intended to be your only headlight. It's bright enough for drivers to see you coming, and for fixing a flat tire, or reading a cue sheet. It's also a good backup, in case your primary headlight fails, you can see the road, but you shouldn't ride fast with it. LD-260 $ 15.50

I have a taillight version; black case with a red lens. It's the LD260 BRR. Our part number is CATLT4089. $ 12.00

The LD-260 takes 3 AAA batteries which are included. The clamp is the SP-5, and it includes an extra pad so it will fit tubes as small as 20mm. Of course, any Cat Eye clamp will fit. See below.

One very nice feature of the LD260 is the different diameter clamps that are available for it. You can clamp the light to something as thin as a seatstay on your frame, or as large as the seatpost. Clamps are available for tubes sized 12.7mm through 34.5mm. I stock them all.

The mount is particularly nice. Not only do you have the seven different clamp sizes, but the mount itself rotates around three planes. The mount can be rotated to allow mounting to vertical tubes as well as horizontal tubes.

This creates some interesting mounting options.

I stock the full range of Cat Eye clamps.

    BS-3

    12.7-15.8mm,

    $ 1.50

    BS-5

    SP-6

    26.5-30.5mm,

    $ 2.00

    SP-8

    31.0-34.5mm,

    $ 2.00

This piece connects the LD-260 to the round clamp. It's my part number CATLT4011. It pivots in the center, as you can see in the photos above. Cat Eye calls it the Horizontal Mount. $ 3.80

Another version of this mount has the rear section (on the left) angled ninety degrees to clockwise, making for more interesting mounting positions for the LD-260. It's Cat Eye's part number 544-1050 and they call it their Vertical Mount. It's our part number CATLT4013. $ 3.00

    TL-LD270

This sleek light comes with either a red or white LED that mounts to your handlebar or seatpost, so people can see you coming and going. These are only for others to see you by. They won't help you see where you're going.

    Features:

    • Up to 90 hours of run time
    • Runs on 2 N size batteries
    • Flex-Tight? mounting bracket

Our part number for the red lens version is CATLT4170 $ 12.50

Our part number for the clear lens version with white LEDs is CATLT4172 $ 15.00

The Cat Eye LD170 lights have three LEDs and can be set for blinking or steady on. Great for use in front when you don't need a light for you to see the road, but do need a light to be seen by others. The mount is designed to allow easy attachment to either a seatpost or a handlebar. It is not compatible with the Cat Eye mounts pictured above. Requires two AAA batteries, not included.

    LD170-F front light - $ 8.80

    Flex-Tight Taillight Bracket

This new bracket makes it easyto mount a variety of Cat Eye taillights to the rear of you bike. It easily adjusts to different diameter tubes on your frame or rear rack. It works like a hose clamp, but instead of using a screw driver, you just tighten a nylon knob. As of February, 2007, it works with these Cat Eye taillights: TL-LD600, TL-LD550-F, TL-LD500-F, TL-LD270, TL-LD150, TL-LD130, TL-LD120, TL-LD110, TL-LD100. It's Cat Eye's part number 534-2260. It's our part number CATLT3982 $ 5.00

    SL-LD100

These innovative lights are waterproof to 50 meters and can mount anywhere with their innovative elastric strap. A new type of magnetic switch makes it easy to turn this light on in any condition. Three lighting modes include flashing, constant, and alternating. Available in both red and white.

    Red: Our part number CATLT4105 $ 11.00

    Clear/White: Our part number CATLT4106 $ 14.50

    TL-LD1000

The TL-LD1000 is the latest and brightest tail light from Cat Eye. It is highly water resistant, has 4 different modes, and offers side visibility. With 10 super bright LEDs and Cat Eye Opticube lens technology, the TL-LD1000 is designed to be bright enough to be used even during the day.

    $ 30.00

    TL-LD600

Five bright LEDs, 4 flashing modes, and a universal mount make this one of the most popular CatEye lights. Our part number CATLT4066 $ 15.00
